Help a tech n00b out with her camera installation.?
I’ll try to keep this short and simple.
*Help I am a complete idiot and I have no idea where to find the installation software I need for my Panasonic camcorder.*
We just got a Panasonic PV-GS13 Digital Video Camcorder and it works fine and all but I just can’t seem to transfer the videos onto my Windows 7 Laptop. When I connect it to my laptop the laptop doesn’t recognize it. It came with a CD that told me to install a few things and I tried but it kept telling me that it doesn’t work with my operating system (damn you Windows 7 =.=#). I’ve been looking for drivers or whatever I need to install for it but I can’t find them anywhere online. Help?
And I apologize again for my total stupidity =.=.
Looking for computer recommendations for home video surveillance.?
I’m looking for a way to get webcams or the like and use them for home security purposes.
I figure that I could get a computer that has several usb ports or equivalent and it would be dedicated just for that purpose. I would use a broadband connection to stream images off-site (not all the time), have a UPS (10-15 minute duration). I’m thinking of 4-6 cameras being managed by 1 software package.
I’d like the cameras mid-range – a ccd or low light camera probably isn’t needed, unless that would be the preferred tool for the job.
So basically, I’m looking for the computer, software, cameras and UPS. I don’t need comments on home networking or bandwidth. Computer size isn’t an issue, it will be tucked out of the way and not moved (racked, probably). Operating system isn’t all that important (unix would be preferred but not necessary) The cameras can be either fixed or movable – I haven’t really figured out how I want to lay them out yet.
Suggestions?
Editing HD Video Slow – Will New Video Card Help?
I just bought an HD video camera. Editing the videos on my computer is so slow I can barely do it. And it causes frequent crashes. Will a new video card help? If so, what kind?
My computer is pretty good too. Dual core AMD Athlon 4400+. 4GB of RAM. Windows 7 operating System. Built-in NvIdia Geforce 6150.
What I want to know is if a new video card will help, and what I should look for. Will a new video card improve performance, or is my computer just not up to HD editing?
Thanks.
Shopping for a mobile phone… how do I know which one is right for me?
Today, as most of my searches for a mobile phone usually start, my phone died when I was the least prepared for it. And I have no idea what I want to buy to replace it! I’ve never been on the ball when it comes to comparing gadgets, much less planning to buy them. I tend to just buy an affordable phone that works well, has a large memory, and supports a lot of multimedia.
I’ve been considering the iPhone for quite awhile, because my dad and boyfriend use them. It has most of the features I want, and I’m comfortable using it. But my country doesn’t support 3G very well just yet. Plus, the price is kind of beyond what I’m willing to spend right now… although my dad would happily contribute financially if I’m going for it. But at least I should be able to show my dad that I’ve done my homework in researching the market (although I know I haven’t been very good at it).
Most of my friends use BlackBerry, which is also savvy and more affordable than iPhone, but I’m not as crazy about it. I tried a demo of Samsung Corby but I absolutely loathe it. And I have no clue about other smartphones. My boyfriend suggests getting something with an Android operating system, but I haven’t really tried any phones that have it so I don’t know if I actually would like it.
Is there any websites out there where I can just get an easy, user-friendly comparison of some of the most versatile smartphones out there? Can I just take a quiz somewhere about my mobile phone habits, internet usage patterns, profession and lifestyle; and then it just tells me two or three phones that I might like, how much they cost, and what they can do for me. But if what I’m asking is just some ridiculously whimsical fantasy, then at least I’d like to come across a website where I can have practical comparisons in a table format or so.
Here are some features that I’m looking for in a mobile phone:
- HUGE memory
- High resolution graphics and sound
- Internet access: browsing, facebook, twitter, various instant messengers, skype, push e-mail, instant access to news portals
- Photo and video camera, ideally of 3.0 megapixels, but 2.0 is fine too
- Downloads and plays music, videos, and podcasts; and lets me organize my own playlists
- Records voice even to extended playback, in excellent quality
- Would be great if it also comes with simple apps to edit sound, video, and pictures
- Comes with a calendar which can be used to organize schedules, make to-do-lists, and prompt me to do things on time
- Touch screen, with QWERTY support
- Just a whole package that I’m absolutely in love with!

Does the most recent version of Yahoo Toolbar have a pop-up blocker?
My current pop-up blocker that comes preloaded on IE is acting weird. I’ve currently got it set on the strictest of settings (used to be on the middle setting) and it’s turned on but it’s allowing an unusually high amount of pop-ups to get through. Some are pages are just completely random but most of them are related to whatever search I made in either google or yahoo and I have to close the stupid window that opened up in full screen in front of the window I’m trying to work with. I understand some unwanted pop ups get though and not all are going to be stopped but this is just getting ridiculous.
In an attempt to remedy the situation, I downloaded the Yahoo Toolbar because I remembering it having a pop-up blocker in the past but I’m unable to find it in this newest version. If there is one, could you tell me how to find it. Also, I’m open to hearing other ideas as to how the pop-ups are getting through and how I can stop them.
As far as downloads are concerned, the only major one I remember since January is a virus scanner from Microsoft Security Essentials that my hubby put on it when he noticed my lap top running slow (hasn’t been since he worked with it) and some downloads from a CD to view some video clips I made with my video camera. I have an ASUS Eee PC 901 with the Windows XP operating system if that helps too. If more information is required to answer the question, I’ll do my best to provide it. Thanks.
I'm having serious problems with my SD card OR the card reader?
I desperately need help. I have a SANYO camera that I use to take videos. It’s not a video camera. It’s a picture camera that does take videos as well.
Anyway, when I’m finished taking the video, I put the SD card that was in the camera into the card reader. The card reader was made by Targus, if that helps. Anyway, if I bring up My Computer and look into the drive and try to watch the video, it’s full of lots of colors. There’s no distinct images or anything. Just a lot of red, green, blue, purple, orange, etc. Like static. The audio work fine, though. I use my videos so I can edit them with Adobe After Effects. But when I put it into Ae (After Effects), it only shows the first frame, as if I had frozen it.
But– I recently download QuickTime player. If I open the video in QuickTime, it works fine. Before I downloaded QuickTime, I could watch the movie. Please help. It’s very important.

What new phone should I get?
I’m looking for a new phone, I want it to have decent music playing/storage capabilities and also a touchscreen. I know you are all screaming iPhone or myTouch or whatever, but I really don’t want to pay for a data plan every month which I will barely use. My priorities are music playing/storage, a very nice operating system (not buggy, responsive, no lag), touchscreen; after all that video camera, messaging, etc are less important features. I’ve had a RAZR and a nano for like four years and I’m really sick of them. I’m taking a good operating system and responsive interface seriously because my RAZR has recently been total crap. Right now I’m looking at T-mobile’s Samsung Highlight for 0, which I don’t need a data plan to use (well it is cheaper after rebate with a data plan, but that’s gone in 2 months anyway). Unfortunately it doesn’t have the android OS like the HTC phones, but those require data plans. I also don’t know how much memory I can add to it. So, any recommendations you have for a phone, from whatever provider, would be appreciated.
How do I transport 8mm Video Cassettes to my PC?
I have the original camcorder, problem is it’s from 1998. I can easily play the videos on T.V. by connecting an analog cable from camcorder to T.V. but that’s it….
Can I just get an analog to USB converter, use analog cord to connect camera to converter, and use USB cable to connect converter to PC?
If I play video tapes on camera, while connected to converter, will they simultaneously play on PC, or do I have to make them digitally compatible somehow?
If so, how do I make videos digitally compatible so I can play and save them on PC?
My operating system is Windows 7and I do have NTI Media Maker (v8).
Is there software already on PC I can utilize or will I have to purchase specific software?
I keep trying to research it online, but me not being a tech. junkie, I can’t decipher what people are saying I need to do or get. Some say I can just get the converter, others say I need a Firewire (have no clue what the hell that is???). So please break it down as much as possible, ’cause I’m clueless, the more simple the better, so if I don’t HAVE TO HAVE the firewire don’t bother explaining it!!
I do plan on trying to upload these videos on websites (primarily facebook) and the ultimate goal being, getting them all on to DVDs. Thus, if I need other software/equipment to make it digitally compatible in order to do these things, please give as much detail on devices/software, so I know HOW I’m supposed to use them. Also please post a link for images of devices/software so I know EXACTLY what I need to get.
Preferably as CHEAP as possible. Please explain step by step, dumb it down as much as possible!!
Thanks!!
